Frequently asked questions

Where is Tigerland Rice Farm located?

In Ban Huay Khom, a Karen hill tribe village in Chiang Rai, Thailand's northernmost province — about 25km from Chiang Rai International Airport and the city. A half-hour drive that feels much further from modern life.

How do I get there?

We'll pick you up from Chiang Rai International Airport or the city. Just share your flight details in advance and we'll handle a smooth, comfortable transfer to the farm.

What's included in the fee?

Full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner), accommodation in our farm cottage, round-trip transfers to Chiang Rai airport or city, and a guided, hands-on rice farming program with forest walks.

What's the maximum group size?

Max 10 guests — we keep it intimate on purpose.

What's the accommodation like?

An authentic Karen hill tribe lodge, hand-built by Father Gun and Mother Tomei — simple, clean, and comfortable. A private room plus communal living space for up to ten guests, mosquito netting, western-style sitting toilets, and fresh, cool mountain-water showers.

Is there wifi, air-con, or hot water?

No wifi, weak mobile signal, a small solar-powered TV, no air-con, no hot water shower. That's the point — it's a break from all of it.

Can I charge my phone or camera?

Yes — two solar panels provide electricity for charging phones, cameras, laptops, and lighting.

What are the meals like? Vegetarian or halal options?

All meals are prepared by Mother Tomei over a traditional firewood stove, using fresh farm produce and wild mushrooms, ferns, and plants foraged nearby. Let us know in advance about vegetarian, halal, or no-chili preferences and she'll happily accommodate.

Is there a hospital nearby?

Yes, hospitals and medical centres are about 30 minutes away.

Any shopping nearby?

Mini supermarkets and stores in the village, plus the Chiang Rai night bazaar and city malls for local crafts and products.

“Our host family was so hospitable, going out of their way to make our stay as comfy as possible. We recommend this to anyone who wants an experience beyond the classroom and beyond the urban jungle.”
